CAPITO ANNOUNCES U.N. AMBASSADOR NIKKI HALEY WILL VISIT WEST VIRGINIA

CHARLESTON, WV– U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito announced today that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley will visit West Virginia on June 10, 2019. Haley will attend a girls’ empowerment event before headlining a fundraiser for Capito’s reelection campaign.

“I am honored that Ambassador Haley has accepted my invitation to visit West Virginia,” stated Capito. “Ambassador Haley is a great leader for our nation. At the U.N. she stood up for our nation’s interest and promoted American values. She is a role model for young women around the world.”

“Senator Capito has been a strong, conservative voice for the people of her state. I look forward to standing with her in West Virginia and supporting her reelection,” stated Ambassador Haley.

The daughter of immigrants from India, Haley went on to be elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives (2005 to 2010) before becoming the first female Governor of South Carolina (2011 to 2017). President Donald Trump appointed her Ambassador to the United Nations in November 2016. She was overwhelmingly confirmed by the U.S. Senate in January 2017. Haley’s full bio can be read here.

Capito announced in April 2019 that she would seek a second term to the U.S. Senate in 2020. Her announcement video can be viewed here. The June 10th fundraiser will be the first major fundraising event Capito has held since her election in 2014 when she became the first Republican to win a Senate seat in 58 years. Capito received 62% of the vote and won all 55 counties. She is the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from West Virginia.

Both Capito and Haley got their start in politics by winning seats to their state’s house legislative bodies. The fundraiser will be closed press.
