CAPITO HONORED TO HAVE THE UMWA ENDORSEMENT

CHARLESTON, WV – The Capito for West Virginia campaign released the following statement from Senator Shelley Moore Capito regarding her being endorsed by the United Mine Workers of America.

Capito said:  “I’m honored and grateful to have the endorsement of the United Mine Workers of America. Mining is an essential part of our state’s economy and culture. I’m glad that through hard work, bipartisan effort and the tireless advocacy of UMWA President Cecil Roberts and others, we were able to preserve pension and health care benefits for our miners and retirees.”

In announcing their endorsement of Senator Capito, UMWA President Cecil Roberts previously said, “Senator Capito was our leader on the Republican side of the Senate in our fight to preserve miners’ pensions and retirees’ health care. From the day she stepped into the Senate, she has been fighting alongside us for these pensions and health care benefits.”

Senator Capito previously secured the endorsements of OMEGA, The West Virginia Trucking Association, HuntPAC, the West Virginia Healthcare Association, West Virginia Automobile and Truck Dealers Association, West Virginia Manufacturers Association and ABC West Virginia.

Capito has previously been endorsed by Ambassador Nikki Haley, Congressman David McKinley, Congressman Alex Mooney, Congresswoman Carol Miller, Auditor JB McCuskey, Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt and Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. The overwhelming majority of the Republican members of the state legislature, led by Senate President Mitch Carmichael and Speaker Roger Hanshaw, offered their support to Capito’s reelection campaign. Republican National Committee Members, Kayla Kessinger and Larry Pack, are backing Capito. The West Virginia Federation of College Republicans was the first group to endorse Capito after she announced her reelection campaign.
